MARES

Mares chosen for the breeding program must have superior conformation and movement, but the screening process does not stop there! Trainability and temperament are considered as important as physical attributes. Mares should be performance proven, but must also display the qualities that make them good mothers. Individuals that conceive easily, carry well and deliver safely will produce happier, healthier foals. Mares must tolerate people handling their babies from birth to ensure proper imprinting and the veterinary care required for a foundation for future performance. Mares are put on feeds that will provide excellent nutrition before they are even bred which has been shown to help prevent unsoundness in their foals later in life.

FOALS

Foals from proven mares with good nutrition are on the path to a successful future in sport, but that is just the beginning.

Firemist babies spend their first three years on ration balanced feeds, are dewormed every 4 weeks and have visits from the farrier every 3 weeks. Large Warmblood foals who grow rapidly go through frequent changes in hoof and leg balance, and many problems which plague adult athletes can be prevented or even corrected at a young age. After several months changes are permanent, and by monitoring foals for any deviations from a correct foundation, many leg issues can be easily prevented.

Foals are also sponges for information, and by exposing them to a broad variety of sights, sounds and experiences we can make future training issue-free.

Our focus is breeding for dressage and show -jumping prospects with medium to large frames and strong hind-quarters, correct legs and strong, well-shaped hooves. The majority of our mares live, and have competed, barefoot.
